Boys Varsity Basketball had their first game of the season last night against Curtis High School. The game started with Curtis winning the toss up but Sumner was the one who scored first. After Sumner’s first points their offense went cold as Curtis was the one who heated up early. Curtis gained a small lead early and came out physical in a full court press for most of Sumner’s offensive possessions. After getting into 2-11 hole Sumner turned up their offensive production by out scoring Curtis 13-3 to go into the 2nd with a 15-14 lead. The 2nd quarter got underway and it showed the two teams becoming more physical fouling each other and sending each other to the free throw line multiple times. Sumner was able to take the lead 29-28 going into halftime. After a nice 1st half Sumner came out looking the same up until multiple inbound went for turnovers as well as fouls causing them to lose the lead going into the 4th 39-46. The two teams went at it as both offense scored at will. With the game under a minute left Sumner looked to their three point shooters to take over the game, unfortunately Sumner couldn’t get it done losing 51-58 to Curtis.
