The student leaders of SHS organized the 2020 Food Bowl hoping to collect thousands of pounds of donations! They navigated keeping collections safe and getting as many donations as possible. Through the ASB Executive teams and the class Officers there are plenty of volunteers to count, collect, and donate!
The first date of drop off was on November 16th. The second day of collection was November 23rd. On both of these days the time slots were from 11:00-1:00 and 2:30-4:30. They used SHS, Sumner Middle, Lakeridge, Maple Lawn, and sometimes Crestwood! In that first round of collection the Class of ‘24 had 1369lbs, Class of ‘21 had 226lbs, Class of 23’ had 104 lbs, Class of ‘22 had 15lbs! The freshman won the first round, but they still have more rounds to go!
Another way they collected food from the community is by standing in front of Fred Meyer in Sumner! As people walked in they politely asked if they would like to donate on their way out after shopping. They collected canned foods, shampoo, deodorant, diapers, noodles, etc! They had four days in the week of the 16th-20th, where each grade level had a day to stand and collect at Fred Meyer from 4-6pm. At the end of the night all of the contributions were put into the Sumner Food Bank van, and those were taken to be weighed and gathered! The pounds collected were added to each grade’s totals!
Hopefully more food will come from the Winter Wishes on November 30th at Sumner High School! At winter Wishes you can pick up a Winter Wish, donate to the toy drive, and donate to the Food Bowl! It’s a great contactless way to give back to the community! Plus, it can help get more people involved and aware of the ways to support everyone during this challenging time! It’s so great to have thousands of pounds of donations to give to the Sumner Food Bank!
The amount of organization that it took for our student leaders to make this possible is awesome, and it’s amazing to aid the Sumner Food Bank as much as possible! Please donate!
